eBOX and Pencil Box

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) hosts a POCSO ebox that children can use to self-report crimes. The Ministry of Labour and Employment runs a similar service, Pencil, to digitally report child labour instances. The aim is laudable, and recognises the need for children to keep themselves safe and for concerned citizens to act on behalf of the children.

Sometimes children may not have access to details (such as a separate email address or phone number) or may be shy to report a crime especially against a known person due to the unpredictability of what could happen next. The awareness of these portals for children may also be low. To support these policies, BBS helps in children discovering these tools, allows licensed community members to help infuse security and predictability in the process to enable children to develop confidence, and enhances these policies with an eFIR connect to streamline the process for the police-legal authorities on the backend.
