Bharat Bal Setu is not a single solution, platform or organisation. It is simply infrastructure rails that all existing organisations, platforms and solutions can use to enhance their own impact. Its key features include:
Open Source, free of cost: The BBS rails are open-source Digital Public Infrastructure. They are free for the children to use and for resources to join. Being philanthropically funded, it is able to provide cover its infrastructure and operation costs.
Anonymous primary access: BBS allows children to remain completely anonymous while interacting with organisations and professionals. This allows them to build a layer of trust with the counterparts before choosing to escalate the situation if needed
Multimodal: The BBS rails can be accessed equally through a smart phone, feature phone, website, community landline to cater to children in different socio-economic contexts
Multilingual: BBS enables real time translation into all Indian languages to facilitate support and conversations for children from resources across the country
Plug-n-play: Any existing website, mobile application, or portal can integrate the BBS rails and offer the same capabilities to children.
Optionality: BBS offers children and resources simplified choice on how they would like to engage (through a helpline (voice-based), anonymous online chat, in-person meet-ups)
Decentralised: BBS does not have any single brand it centralises individuals or organisations under. It is a decentralised open network for pan-India discovery and fulfilment
Interoperable: Organisations and individuals can now be discovered across the network with less need to spend on their own awareness campaigns
Reusable: The rails being built for children can be expanded to include diverse vulnerable groups in the future as well.
